OUR STORY

105 years ago under a brush arbor near the old Green Moore sawmill, people gathered to hear a preacher by the name of John Perkins share the Acts 2:38 message. Many of them repented of their sins, were baptized in Jesus name and received the Holy Ghost. The Acts 2:38 message had come to Starks, LA! About that same time another brush arbor was built on Hwy 109, North of town, a little beyond the junction of Alligator Park Road. Eventually a small building with a dirt floor was built and then another larger structure stood on the corner of Alligator Park Road and Old River Road. This church was known as the Old Fields Church. Meanwhile in Green Moore, the church purchased the Lumber Mill’s commissary building and held services there. Later during the 1920’s, Joe Doiron (Sis. Smith’s Great Grandfather) dismantled the building and used the lumber to build a church on Robert Street in Starks. Sometime around 1949 the Old Fields congregation joined with the church in Starks and the two churches became one. The church acquired two old school busses and began running routes on the Green Moore loop and down Old River Road to bring people to church. The church began under the leadership of Rev. John Perkins in 1917. Since that time there have been several pastors. We have tried to learn the history of each of them, but records have been difficult to obtain. We have relied on the memories of many of our elder members, and a few written manuscripts from some that have already passed on. Though we are not completely clear on the exact years each pastor served, we do know that FPC was blessed to have great men of God through the years. Bro. Bagget, Luther Nichols, Henry Dunn, H. B. Morgan, A.L. O’Brien, Cecil Sullivan and Greg Frazier all have served the church in the office of pastor.

Pastoral History

Pastor Bagget, and Pastor Luther Nichols served the church in the years prior to Pastor Henry Dunn who served until sometime in 1949. Pastor H. B. Morgan served from 1949 until June,1954. Bro. Morgan was followed by Rev. A.L. O’Brien who was Pastor for 37 years until his passing in 1991. In 1991 Rev. Cecil Sullivan was elected Pastor, having already served as Assistant Pastor of the church since the early 1970’s. When Pastor Sullivan passed away in 1995, the church elected Rev. Greg Frazier, who served as pastor until December 2014. Rev. Karl Smith is the current pastor of FPC.
